Purshia plicata (Antelope Bush)

Shrub

This member of the rose family is native to the Chihuahuan Desert in northeast Mexico, primarily in the state of Nuevo Leon. Antelope bush is at home in the dry grasslands of the upland scrub and oak/juniper forests. It is very similar in appearance to our native cliffrose as a many-branched, upright shrub with small, 3-5 lobed, dark green leaflets. The 5-petaled rose pink flowers are quite showy. The fruit is slender and feathery in appearance.
